Revolutionizing Pulse Production for Maximum Yield

India is grappling with a chronic shortage in pulse production, a dilemma exacerbated by a notable decline in output during the 2023-24 crop season.

This looming crisis threatens to deepen the nation's reliance on imported pulses, posing significant challenges to food security and agricultural sustainability.

India stands as the global leader in pulse production, boasting an impressive yield of 23 million tonnes from a sprawling acreage spanning 30 million hectares. This substantial contribution constitutes approximately 35% of the world's total pulse-growing land and 27% of global production output.

Such dominance underscores India's pivotal role in shaping the pulse market landscape and meeting international demand.

India's initiative through the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) - Pulses, aims to tackle the persistent shortage in pulse production by implementing strategic measures. With a targeted increase of 3 million tonnes, this mission aligns perfectly with the nation's goal to bolster pulse production and enhance food security.

Furthermore, the concurrent increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) provides vital support to farmers, incentivizing higher production and ensuring economic sustainability. By synergizing the efforts of NFSM - Pulses with the broader agricultural landscape, India is poised to not only meet its domestic demand but also emerge as a significant player in the global pulse market.
